The Laboratory for Clinical and Physiological Research

The Laboratory for Clinical and Physiological Research of the BioCC is a part of the European Clinical Research Infrastructures Network (ECRIN www.ecrin.org), a non-profit infrastructure supporting multinational clinical research projects in Europe.

Unique in Estonia and in the Baltic region Laboratory for Clinical and Physiological Research of the BioCC conducts in vivo safety, tolerability and efficacy trials with food and feed in accordance with EU and international legislation and scientific practice.

Laboratory of Human Trials performs clinical research on the effects of foodstuffs and food supplements on the health and physiological parameters of humans. Human intervention studies are nowadays an essential component for testing the health effect of foods and food constituents for improvement, understanding and substantiating health benefits of functional foods. The acquired data help enerprises to obtain science-based expertise / information on any food product.

The Laboratory has experienced team, know-how and equipment for qualitative and quantitative analysis of biological material of human origin.

The Laboratory of Human Trials has a (encoded) database of approximately 900 volunteers

Within past 10 years the BioCC has carried out over 20 clinical trials testing the effect of (functional) food and dietary supplements on different biomarkers in cooperation with project partners (enterprises and the Medical Faculty of the University of Tartu).
